May is Mental Health Month

Every month is Mental Health Month at the Clearwater Free Clinic, although May is officially designated as such by the Mental Health America organization.  Here at the Clinic, many patients suffer from depression and anxiety because of the difficult circumstances of their lives and their physical health issues.  The Clinic is now able to treat patients’ mental health issues through our new behavioral health program.  Patients can make appointments with a counselor or a psychiatric nurse practitioner and even receive medication at the Clinic.

Be4Stage4 is the theme of this year’s Mental Health Month.  When we think about cancer, heart disease, or diabetes, we don’t wait years to treat them. We start before Stage 4 when the disease is fully-developed and life-threatening; instead, we try to begin with prevention. So why don’t we do the same for individuals who are dealing with potentially serious mental illness?  Click below to view an engaging 90-second video packed with facts and information.
