Painting for a Cause: Get Creative for the Clinic

Have we mentioned how much we love Radiance Medspa and Beach Art Center!? These two wonderful local establishments hosted a fabulous and intimate event for the benefit of the Clearwater Free Clinic! What could be better than tapping into your artsy side while sipping wine with friends?

Funds were raised at this fun event that will go directly to the programs and services that our patients rely on for their health care needs. We are a part of an interconnected community and without the dedication and generosity of so many great people, we could not serve so many of the under-served. Thank you Beach Art Center and Radiance MedSpa for your hospitality and for such a successful event!

The Clearwater Free Clinic Celebrates Doctors’ Day

2017 DD1-01

Thursday, March 30th, is “National Doctors’ Day”…a day of celebration established to recognize physicians and the many contributions they make each day. When sick or in pain, in body or mind, we seek the help of doctors to heal us. Often times, we may not recognize all of the efforts and accomplishments of our doctors as they work to keep us healthy. It is difficult to imagine what society would be like without doctors of all kinds to care for us when we need them.

Did you know that last year, there were 922 million visits to physicians in America? The Clearwater Free Clinic invites you to celebrate the doctors in your life and let them know how much you value their medical expertise, kindness, compassion, or simple willingness to listen.

Say thank you by making a donation to the Clearwater Free Clinic in their honor and the Clinic will send an acknowledgment(s) of your gratitude.

To which doctor(s) would you like to give an extra dose of gratitude on this Doctors’ Day 2017?

What better way to honor a physician than to provide medical care to those in need? Fill out the below form and make a donation today!

Meet Our 2017 Martinis & Matisse Featured Artist: Heather Kendall

heather_kendall_headshotIf you attended last year’s Martinis & Matisse, you surely remember the shell-encrusted mirror on display as you entered the gallery. The buzz created by that show-stopping piece has resulted in the choice of Heather Kendall as the 2017 Featured Artist.

Heather spent her childhood at the North End of Clearwater Beach where she grew up gathering the shells that would become both her passion and her livelihood. “I create custom seashell designs including mirrors, chandeliers, sconces and plenty of decorative items. I’ve been designing with seashells for over 14 years now and my pieces can be found in beautiful homes and select stores from Southampton, NY to Boca Grande, FL to La Jolla, CA.”

Be sure to meet Heather on January 21st. In the meantime, check out Heather Kendall Designs at http://www.elegantshells.net.

Giving Tuesday 2016

Between the extra helpings and extra items in the cart, you might forget the holidays aren’t actually about taking, but giving, and Giving Tuesday, celebrated on November 29th this year, provides a gateway into just that. In its fourth year, the new “holiday” of sorts offers a selfless response to Black Friday and Cyber Monday by encouraging charitable giving and highlighting worthy causes.

Please join the Clearwater Free Clinic as we begin the holiday giving season on #GivingTuesday, November 29th. Help us provide medical care for those in our community who can’t afford it. As part of our #GivingTuesday plan, we are trying to provide comprehensive health care for 20 of our patients for a year. Because of the generosity of our community partners and our 150+ volunteers, the Clinic is able to provide:

  • $250 will provide 5 patients with diabetic meds & supplies for 1 month

  • $500 will provide the CFC with acute & chronic care meds for 2 days

  • $1000 will provide comprehensive medical care for a family of 4 for 1 year

Our goal is to raise $5,000 on #GivingTuesday. We want to challenge our community to give generously on this day that is designated to give to others.

Here in Pinellas County, 25% of our neighbors lack health insurance. Subsequently, their chronic illnesses are not monitored and controlled and, with any acute problem, they end up in the Emergency Room. With your gift, the Clearwater Free Clinic can provide comprehensive health care to these neighbors. Together, we can save lives.

There are several ways to get involved with the Clinic on #GivingTuesday.

First, please DONATE

You can help us meet our goal by giving generously. We are accepting Giving Tuesday donations early!  Remember, $250 will pay the Clinic’s share of a patient’s care for an entire year ($62 will pay for 3 months)! Donate below anytime between now and November 30th and your gift will be counted towards our goal $5000 goal.

POST on Social Media

You can help the Clearwater Free Clinic spread the word about #Giving Tuesday by posting on social media; be sure to use the hashtag #GivingTuesday in your posts

Meet our 2016 Martinis & Matisse Honorary Chair… Mrs. J.O. Stone

IMG_9177The Clearwater Free Clinic is pleased to announce that Ruth Stone will serve as Honorary Chair of Martinis & Matisse 2016. Mrs. Stone has been a generous benefactor to many local charities and has been a sponsor of CFC’s Martinis & Matisse for several years.

Ruth and her late husband, J.O. “Jake” Stone, were married over 40 years and were firmly rooted in the Clearwater area. They enjoyed financial success with their automobile dealerships and commercial real estate holdings. Ruth continues their legacy of giving back to the community and is honored to support the Clinic as Honorary Chair. “I love attending Martinis and Matisse; it’s such an elegant event. We should all be very grateful to this organization and support the efforts of our local doctors, nurses and volunteers who come to the aid of our neighbors in their time of need.”

There are so many worthy causes, and the Clinic’s staff and volunteers appreciate Ruth’s selection of the Clinic as one of her chosen charities and thank her for serving as this year’s Honorary Chair.

Save the Date! Give Day Tampa Bay

May 5, 2015…a Once-a-Year Opportunity

GDTB-Logo Every day, an average of 66 uninsured patients come to the Clearwater Free Clinic for medical diagnosis and treatment.  Every day, patients have an average of 167 free prescriptions filled.  Every day, there is an enormous need for the Clinic’s services, and next Tuesday, May 5th, you have a special once-a-year opportunity to support the Clinic!

Give Day Tampa Bay is a community-wide, online giving challenge hosted by The Community Foundation of Tampa Bay and Florida NEXT Foundation.  The midnight-to-midnight event showcases local nonprofits and makes giving easy, whether you are a first-time donor or a long-time supporter.  All it takes is a couple of clicks on your smartphone, tablet or computer.

Please consider giving to the Clinic on that specific day.  Donations start at $25.  Not only will each $25 gift provide $125 of actual healthcare services, but there are also bonuses and additional prizes throughout the day.  Your gift could actually help us raise significantly more money!

  • Aim for 6:46 a.m. – a $5,000 BONUS will be given to the organization that receives the donation closest to sunrise.
  • Aim for 8:06 p.m. – a $5,000 BONUS will be given to the organization that receives the donation closest to sunset.
  • Aim for Midnight – a $5,000 BONUS will be given to the organization that receives the donation closest to midnight.
  • Or donate whenever is convenient – a $500 BONUS will be awarded every hour to one non-profit that received a donation that hour.

Please put Give Day Tampa Bay on your calendar and set your clocks.  This could be such a great day for the Clearwater Free Clinic!

Volunteer Week 2015

The Clearwater Free Clinic Celebrates Volunteer Week

April 13th -16th

The Clearwater Free Clinic celebrates its volunteers every day, but this week we will be going all out for our volunteers!  During National Volunteer Week, the Clinic will be hosting daily luncheons for the broad variety of volunteers who actually serve the public and strive to meet the mission of the clinic…”to deliver comprehensive medical care to uninsured families through volunteerism and community partnerships.”

Our weekly volunteers answer the phone, welcome the patients, keep medical records, and schedule appointments. They read blood pressures and listen to hearts; they examine eyes and adjust spines. They diagnose illnesses and prescribe medication. They fill prescriptions and arrange for further testing or procedures.  It is only through the tireless work of our volunteers that we can promise that for every dollar donated to the clinic, our patients receive $5 worth of care. Without our countless number of volunteers, the Clinic’s doors could not stay open, and thousands of needy patients would find themselves shut out of heath care.

With their easy smiles and willing hearts, our volunteers are indeed, “Hands down, the best volunteers in town!”  The Clinic will be celebrating them every day during Volunteer Week with a different themed lunch and the ever-popular ice cream sundae buffet. If you are a CFC volunteer, be sure to come for lunch before or after your shift this week! We are eager to treat you to lunch and to say an extra “Thank You” for everything you do for our Clinic patients.
