Getting to Know Our Martinis and Matisse Committee: Meet Sara Mullins

Every successful event has dedicated people working behind the scenes—and for Martinis & Matisse, one of those people is Sara Mullins, a longtime member of our Art Selection Committee and current Art Committee Chair. Sara has been helping curate and organize the exhibit for the last three years, but her connection to the Clearwater Free Clinic goes back to 2015.

“I was inspired to get involved because it gave me a chance to give back while using the experience I’ve gained through my small business, Galleries on the Go,” she shared.

Behind the Scenes with Sara

Sara’s favorite part of planning? “Getting to see the new art come in—it’s inspiring to view the many aspects of creativity.”She recalls one especially memorable moment: the first year monetary awards were given to top artists. “The local artists really appreciated it, and it made the fundraising effort extra special for them.”

What many don’t realize is the huge number of volunteer hours that go into making the event happen. From food and live music to decorations and logistics, it takes a team of passionate people. “The mix of old and new members keeps the planning sessions alive. I love being surrounded by people who truly care about supporting the Clinic.”

Looking Ahead to This Year’s Event

Sara is most excited about reviewing the art submissions and finding those special pieces that move patrons to donate generously. “Each year we look for ways to add new details and improve the experience. We refine what didn’t work before and add elements that will excite and delight attendees.” For her, the heart of the event lies in its impact on the community: “The closer the community is to the people they help, the better the outcome for everyone. At the Clinic, people can see firsthand the incredible work being done to make healthcare accessible to our vulnerable families.”

A Personal Connection

Sara’s passion for service is rooted in her upbringing. “I was raised by two parents who understood how giving back raises the community to a better standard. This is one of the best ways I’ve seen to give back in my adult life.” Though she doesn’t have a direct personal connection to Clinic services, her time on the committee has led to meaningful friendships and a deeper appreciation for the mission. When asked to describe the event in three words, Sara put her own twist on it: “My mother used to say ‘Pretty is as pretty does.’ For me, I’d say ‘Giving is as giving does.’”
