A Bridge of Care During Life’s Gaps: Laura’s Story

For many, turning 65 is a milestone to look forward to. But for Laura N., it meant navigating a difficult gap in coverage before qualifying for Medicare. Fortunately, a friend told her about the Clearwater Free Clinic — and it made all the difference.

“I called and set up an appointment for women’s health and started coming,” Laura said. During her time at CFC, Laura received comprehensive care including internal medicine, rheumatology, nutrition counseling, and women’s health. “All the doctors treated me with respect. You wouldn’t know that we weren’t paying. Each person here makes you feel important, from the reception area to the medical assistants to the doctors themselves.”

One highlight was working with our nutritionist, Georgeann, who made a lasting impact on Laura’s health. Laura also appreciated the clinic’s connections to community partners, including referrals for dental care.

Now that she is moving into Medicare, Laura is sad to leave the Clinic but grateful for the bridge it provided. “You all have been like a godsend for me. I’ve been really taken care of, tremendously. Even the phone calls and reminders — everything has been wonderful.”

She continues to recommend the Clinic to others facing health care gaps. “If you need assistance right now, please, look into this. It’s been tremendous. Truly.”
