Wellness Starts at CFC: Why Preventative Care Matters
When most people think about the Clearwater Free Clinic, they think of medical care when something’s wrong — a cough that won’t go away, blood pressure that’s too high, a prescription that’s run out. And while that’s still a big part of what we do, our expanding care model is designed to do something even more powerful: help you stay well in the first place.
At the Clearwater Free Clinic, we believe that everyone deserves the chance to stay healthy. That’s the heart of our new Wellness Program — a place where prevention and compassion meet.
What’s new
At Clearwater Free Clinic, we welcome you to establish care with our healthcare team for preventive health services. Our goal is to help you maintain optimal health, identify potential risks early, and promote wellness through routine checkups and screenings.
By establishing care, you gain access to comprehensive preventive services including physical exams, age-appropriate health screenings, vaccinations, and counseling on healthy lifestyle choices. Our providers will work with you to develop an individualized care plan based on your personal health goals and risk factors.
Preventive appointments are designed to keep you well, not just to treat illness. Regular visits help us track changes in your health, manage risk factors, and ensure timely follow-up on recommended screenings and lab results.
Why it matters
About 18% of Pinellas County residents have no health insurance. Without regular care, small health concerns can quietly become major ones. At the Clearwater Free Clinic, we believe that prevention is the most cost-effective and compassionate form of care. Because every healthy day means more time for what matters — your family, your work, and your life.
How to get started
If you’re new to the Clinic, it all starts with our New Patient Screening Appointment, where we’ll review your eligibility and help you enroll for ongoing care. If eligible for our services we’ll determine if chronic care management or a preventative health visit is most appropriate.
Because staying well shouldn’t depend on what’s in your wallet — it should depend on what’s right for your health.
