Care Chronicles: Rosalie

When Rosalie first mentioned she was having trouble seeing, Robin hoped it was temporary. But by November, her vision was deteriorating quickly. “She kept saying, ‘Honey, something’s wrong. I can’t see,’” he remembers. By December, a cloudy film was visible over her eye. Robin suspected a cataract—but they had no idea where to turn for help.

Determined to find answers, Robin searched online and discovered the Clearwater Free Clinic. From the very first phone call, he felt relief. “(Clearwater Free Clinic) actually listened,” he says. “They wanted to help.” Within days, Rosalie had an appointment. The Clinic’s medical team confirmed a mature cataract that had nearly blinded her.

From that moment, the Clinic staff took the lead. They coordinated her exams, guided the couple through every step, and connected Rosalie with the Lions Club, whose support made cataract surgery possible. “The whole team worked together,” Robin says. “They made it happen.”

Less than a month later, Rosalie underwent surgery. The transformation was instant. “It was a Eureka moment,” Robin says, emotion rising in his voice. “She couldn’t see anything out of that eye. Now she’s 85–90% back. She’s reading in church again. She can drive. She’s herself.”

But the Clinic’s care didn’t stop at her eyesight. Rosalie received comprehensive women’s health screenings—her first ever. “They’ve taken care of her from head to toe,” Robin says. Things she never had access to in her whole life.”

For a couple celebrating 30 years of marriage, the experience was life‑changing. “I’m a tough guy,” Robin says, “but this brings tears. She was scared of going blind. I was scared of losing the woman I’ve loved for three decades. This place gave her back to me.”

Today, Robin shares their story with pride. “If you’re in a tough spot and don’t know where to go, come here… It changed everything.”
